Dear iGEMers,

We created the iGEM Forum as a centralized place for discussion of the latest news, advancements, and challenges in Synthetic Biology, and hope you can help us get started by adding your own posts and topics! Currently, the iGEM Forum is in beta, and so, if you find any bugs, or have any suggestions for the use of the forum, please forward them to john at igem.org!

Lab instruments are important tools throughout the research. But I never thought that they might be leaking valuable information through sound. A team at the University of California recorded the sounds of common lab instruments and then reconstructed what a researcher was doing with that instrument. I never thought about the noise the machines were making, for me the noise always faded to the background and I no longer pay attention to machines unless it beeps. So, I am interested in a new generation of machines that take into account these security issues in their design.
